Narrative Development

I started to work on a narrative and do a vague story board so i knew the main points i wanted to hit.

 
This first image just explains the general idea of the plot. My initial idea is to have a young female moving into her uni dorm. Once she settles in, some monsters appear representing some symptoms of Endometriosis. They start to ruin the dorm based on their symptom so bloating eats all the horrible food and inflates, fatigue ruins the bed and sleeps in it, bleeding steals all her good clothes and pain takes away things that she treasures. This isnt definate but this is the general idea so far. 

The first solution is she works with the monster to help reduce them. So with bloating she would take away the sugary food and with fatigue she would begin exercising with and settling down for an occasional nap. The others is were i struggle to think of a management method but i willl do some more research on this.


 An alternative narrative would be that she does those things and starts to notice the monsters calm down and become manageable. So she would do things and realise that one of the monsters changes and would keep doing it.
So far i am happy with the initial plan but i will research some more management methods and think of ways for her to deal with the monsters.

Whilst looking for a leaflet about endometriosis, i found one that is given to patient before having surgery to diagnose and remove endometriosis. Speaking from personal experience, my own research and my own time spent speaking with various doctors and nurses over 9 years. I have broken the leaflet down to make comments on each section. From the outset, the leaflet mentions that it is a laparoscopy which is minimally invasive keyhole surgery. One key part of the surgery is that carbon dioxide is used to inflate the abdomen allowing the surgeon more movement and vision within the abdomen. This i will come back to later. Here the leaflet described what endometriosis is. If youre having surgery to diagnose and remove endometrial tissue, this should be very clear already. Animations that Address Issues

I first tried to look for something simalar to what i am planning to do. The only videos i could find were very clinical. They showed a lot of detail about endometriosis and theres no soft approach to it. I instead tried to look for other instances where it was difficult to talk about the subject but an animation was created to help shed light on the issue. Recently, campaigns to raise awareness of mental health issues has been on the rise. We All Have Mental Health 2018 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxIDKZHW3-E&t=33s   The animation tells a story of a school girl feeling stressed and how she approaches her mother about it. It then goes on to talk about a boy who had great difficulty overcoming his feelings and had problems talking to people about it. Leaflet so far

This is the current standing of the front page. The colours should help the leaflet stand out. I also included the word endometriosis at the top if the leaflet is stacked in a way that the title is covered. This is the middle of the leaflet. I am yet to add any illustrations but wanted to make sure i got the layout of the information correct and that i had sufficient space to fit it. The back page i have reserved for links to more information and a still image of the animation with a link to that.
