Keeping it Close

Early on i thought about creating a project based around something personal to me. Something i already knew a bit about and therefore would have a good understanding early on about the project subject. Its also been recommended in lecture material that a starting point could come from having something to say about a topic, issue or theory. Having struggled for many years without many people knowing or understanding what i go through, its been frustrating. My idea would be to find a way to illustrate what it is and the support avaliable out there.
The issue i found was that since i was young when i was diagnosed, symptoms were often brushed off by GPs and i was told on a few occasions that i would grow out of it. The disease isnt often associated with young women and teenagers and this means diagnosis doesnt happen until later on in their lives. This is changing but many are still unaware of it.

My plan is to create some kind of animated short film about it explaining various things. I may be tempted to include an interactive section should i have the time and ability to. Adding a narrative would really give it that bit extra in my opinion. I have been able to create compelling narratives before so feel like this would be a good project to include one.

Endometriosis Surgery Leaflet

Whilst looking for a leaflet about endometriosis, i found one that is given to patient before having surgery to diagnose and remove endometriosis. Speaking from personal experience, my own research and my own time spent speaking with various doctors and nurses over 9 years. I have broken the leaflet down to make comments on each section. From the outset, the leaflet mentions that it is a laparoscopy which is minimally invasive keyhole surgery. One key part of the surgery is that carbon dioxide is used to inflate the abdomen allowing the surgeon more movement and vision within the abdomen. This i will come back to later. Here the leaflet described what endometriosis is. If youre having surgery to diagnose and remove endometrial tissue, this should be very clear already. Animations that Address Issues

I first tried to look for something simalar to what i am planning to do. The only videos i could find were very clinical. They showed a lot of detail about endometriosis and theres no soft approach to it. I instead tried to look for other instances where it was difficult to talk about the subject but an animation was created to help shed light on the issue. Recently, campaigns to raise awareness of mental health issues has been on the rise. We All Have Mental Health 2018 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxIDKZHW3-E&t=33s   The animation tells a story of a school girl feeling stressed and how she approaches her mother about it. It then goes on to talk about a boy who had great difficulty overcoming his feelings and had problems talking to people about it. Leaflet so far

This is the current standing of the front page. The colours should help the leaflet stand out. I also included the word endometriosis at the top if the leaflet is stacked in a way that the title is covered. This is the middle of the leaflet. I am yet to add any illustrations but wanted to make sure i got the layout of the information correct and that i had sufficient space to fit it. The back page i have reserved for links to more information and a still image of the animation with a link to that.
